Following Unconditional of 5 May 2021 updating the New Industrial Strategy proposed in 2020, the European Commission has further indicated that it’ll rely quite closely on business to deliver on the most important challenges confronted by our economies and societies in Europe. This is particularly the case in relation to sustainability, digital transformation, and international competitiveness, as nicely as the necessity to overcome the disaster provoked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The EU Recovery and Resilience Plan launched in Spring 2021 is essentially constructing on the potential of European trade to design and produce the constructing blocks of the twin green and digital transition. At the identical time, the EU is shaping a dense regulatory framework that does not always help the liberty and flexibility needed for corporations to grow and compete globally.
The European know-how industries, and specifically our pumps, compressors, taps and valves sectors, have for a really long time thought-about the enhancement of their international competitiveness throughout the challenges of societal and environmental challenges, notably by contributing to the preparation of vitality effectivity and ecolabel rules. In parallel, digitalisation has supplied elevated alternatives and introduced new challenges, together with debates on the suitable regulatory stage (sharing of business information, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, etc).
These developments, amidst ever more fierce international competition, require that public authorities and business within the EU work more and more more carefully to design and deploy strategies that reinforce our competitiveness and our contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This would be the topic of the initial debate kicking off our Joint EU Policy Conference, which can convey together key coverage makers from the three EU policy establishments in command of the Industrial Strategy and three Executives representing and illustrating the achievements loved, and challenges still faced, by these three key sectors of industry.
Specific Technical and Policy Issues
As the regulatory landscape across Europe, and indeed the whole world, becomes ever extra complicated, the burden on trade only will increase. It subsequently falls to sector particular trade organisations, such as Europump, CEIR and Pneurop, to determine and advise on these technical and policy points most related to their respective sectors. In our explicit area, that relates, of course, to the manufacture, distribution and use of pumps and all pump associated equipment – an enormous and essential subset of trade, given the width and breadth of pump functions.
Against this backdrop, one of many main considerations when figuring out the core themes for the joint convention was to take care of a direct reference to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). Within this focus, the three associations intend to spotlight how, along with the significance for corporations to handle technical aspects impacting their daily business operations, they think about the positive role of business in addressing societal challenges. Indeed, all the periods could have a technical theme matching the most acceptable UN SDG, and with representation from the European Commission together with technical specialists from trade and/or research institutes, they’ll each be reflective of the present legislative terrain, as it relates to pumps and pumping systems in the following key areas:
Circular Economy & Eco-design (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 12: Responsible Consumption and Production)
Industry’s Digital Transformation and Innovation (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure)
The restriction of use of materials and substances of concern (Relevant UN Sustainable Development Goal no. 6: Clean Water and Sanitation)
The regulatory and legislative panorama across Europe is changing into more and more complicated, and business, in all its guises, must be conscious and prepared for what’s coming. By partaking with these commerce organisations that characterize your finest pursuits, you can hold abreast of all of the compliance developments as they affect your small business and the areas in which you operate.
